“A Orquestra Voadora já é um ícone do carnaval carioca. Desde 2008, seus voos nos jardins do MAM e pelas ruas da cidade levam os foliões à loucura ao som de muito funk, rock, afrobeats e música balcânica em ritmo de fanfarras…” READ MORE.

Sometimes I just need to leave it all on the dance floor. I enjoy going out listening to good music and having fun. Thankfully, I found a DJ that could transport me to a place musically, where I can get lost in the rhythms and feel completely free to let go. Being from Chicago, I instantly connected with Damon Bell’s love for soulful deep house, obscure disco classics, funk and soul. He always seems to play those songs from my childhood that I remember hearing on the radio in Chicago or while sitting on my grandparent’s porch on the south side. It amazes me that Damon “never uses a set list” (in his words) when DJing. However, I am not too surprised because the flow and timing of Damon’s sets come off very intuitive and organic. It seems like each song effortlessly builds upon the other, taking me deeper into the musical experience, allowing me to open up more on a soul level. Damon pulls from the world for inspiration, incorporating afro-beat, jazz, Brazilian music, 80′s boogie and Afro-Cuban music during his sets.
When Damon is not DJing, he is producing music and creating his own sound. Last year, Damon released his first solo project “The Kush Musik” EP. This year he is releasing the follow-up record “Kush Musik Wax”. We sat down with Damon at Lake Merritt in Oakland, CA, where we discussed his musical inspirations, his love for vinyl and how he uses music to connect to spirituality.
I have never met anyone so passionate about bossa nova, until I met Joseh Garcia. It was fate.
We attended the show and were captivated by the performance of Joseh Garcia. He sang beautiful Bossa Nova songs, shared stories with the audience about growing up in Brazil and provided a context and history about the roots of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB).
